Who I Am
I’m David Hooker, and I’ve spent most of my life in the Pacific Northwest, growing up mainly in Eugene, Oregon. I’ve had my own share of hard years. I’ve dealt with ridicule, abuse, and torment from classmates, shipmates, customers, and even family. So when I say I understand what it’s like to feel misunderstood, I mean it. Those experiences didn’t just pass through me, they shaped how I listen to other people today.
I served four years aboard FBM submarines in the North Atlantic during the Cold War. Out there, in tight quarters far from home, cut off from everything familiar, I learned the real value of listening. I led Bible studies for my shipmates and became someone people turned to when they needed a friend or a bit of wisdom. Those years taught me that most people aren’t looking for answers right away. They’re looking for someone who will simply sit with them in it.
I call myself a gregarious introvert. I love being around people, but I recharge in solitude and silence. That balance shapes how I coach today. I stay present with you without pushing you toward anything before you’re ready. I’ve learned that the best conversations happen when someone feels safe enough to slow down and speak honestly, and that’s the space I try to create every time.

The Way I Approach Every Conversation
When you sit down with me, whether in person or over a call, you won’t feel rushed or analyzed. I practice what’s called contemplative coaching, a way of being fully present with you while staying open to whatever wisdom the moment offers. Some sessions are quiet. Some involve hard conversations. Either way, my job is to listen closely and help you think through what you’re facing.
I won’t hand you a script or a checklist. Instead, I’ll help you explore your situation honestly and consider what your next step might look like. You set the pace. I’m just here to walk alongside you.

Frequently
Asked Questions
Questions we often asked
How do I begin therapy?
If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or like something needs to change—but you’re not sure how to move forward—that’s when therapy can help. You don’t need to have everything figured out. You just need to be open to the process.
What can I expect at the matching appointment?
Each session is 50-60 minutes. We’ll decide together how often to meet—typically weekly or bi-weekly, depending on your needs and schedule.
How long are sessions?
Without insurance, therapy sessions typically range from $150 to $275, depending on the therapist you choose to work with.
We understand that cost can be a concern, and we don’t believe it should stand in the way of getting support. Everyone deserves access to quality mental health care. Through our advanced clinical training program, we’re able to offer therapy options when insurance or standard rates aren’t the right fit.
How long does therapy last?
We work with you to find the most effective approach for your needs. In your first session, your therapist will discuss a personalized plan and estimated timeline. Therapy length varies based on your goals and the issues you’re addressing.
Do you take insurance?
I use an integrative approach, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, and psychodynamic methods. But really, my approach is about meeting you where you are and tailoring our work to what you need most.
